Health Coaches professionals provide a nurturing environment where the coaching participant can discover their desire to make changes in their lifestyle. The participant will feel comfortable discussing all areas of their life with the coach in order to determine their reasons for change. The coaching sessions can be done onsite at the participants work location; they can be conducted telephonically or by video conferencing.
Once the coaching participant is aware of their desire for lifestyle changes, the goal setting process begins. Through the S.M.A.R.T goal process, the participant in guided in setting goals that are specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and timely. The goals are written down and the coaching participant is encouraged to keep the goals visible so that they can refer to them as often as possible.

They have to know that their health coach is expecting them to work on the weekly and monthly goals set up during the coaching appointment. Follow-up appointments are essential because this allows the health coach and participant to discuss progress so far; determine roadblocks that the participant experiences; and allows the discussion of any new goals the participant would like to set. An established coaching schedule provides the structure the participant needs to accomplish their plan.
